Description: Privately held Pharmaca is a retail chain that combines traditional pharmacy services with holistic remedies (herbal and dietary supplements, homeopathy, aromatherapy); natural and organic cosmetics and body care products; fair trade gift items; over-the-counter medications and healthy snacks. Like the European pharmacies that inspired Pharmaca, the Boulder-based company's stores are staffed by licensed health care practitioners -- registered pharmacists, naturopathic doctors, homeopaths, estheticians, herbalists and more. Pharmaca said it represents the next generation of the "neighborhood pharmacy."

Update: Pharmaca grew its number of stores by 71 percent from fiscal year 2007 to 2008. The company plans to continue expanding through the 2009 fiscal year by adding one new store per month to its current 24-store base.
