HAVE YOU TRIED THESE JOB SEARCH TECHNIQUES?
FAX
SERVICE -- WWW.JOBSBYFAX will send out
1,000 resumes and if you still do not get a job, they will re-fax your resume
free. There is an initial $135 charge
for the first 1,000. We have one alumni
who tried it and got a job with Infroprint (formerly Ricoh) as one of her
resumes was faxed there. Certainly this
is a different approach.
USING
A HEADHUNTER -- We have given you a list of ones that two of our alumni
like. It is another way of getting your
resume out there. Headhunters do know where there are some job openings.
TEMPORARY
SERVICES -- Also know of job openings and can place you in firms that you can
look at and they as well, see your skills.
Many people have become full time employees after having worked at a
company that was impressed with their work.
Consider it.
CHECK THE JOB BOARDS OF FIRMS YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK FOR -- Most firms have job boards and list their openings.
CONTACT
TARGETED FIRMS YOU WANT TO WORK FOR -- Ask if they have a company handling
contract workers. Like temporary jobs,
many networking groups have had contract workers promoted to full time
status. This is another technique of
getting employed.
ATTEMPT
TO SET YOURSELF APART FROM OTHERS -- By sending a resume in an oversize
envelope to draw attention to it, sending letters of inquiry to firms you have
targeted, complete informational interviews, left resumes at every booth at
career fairs, contacted firms who are laying people off (if they are laying off
they are also hiring)? These are a few
different techniques that most people do not try.
RE-CONNECT
WITH THE LAST FIRM YOU WORKED FOR --
Perhaps they have not found the right person to do your old job and you
might be re-hired, even if it is only on a contract basis.
CONTACT FIRMS THAT WERE COMPETITORS OF YOUR LAST EMPLOYER -- If they are competitors they probably have persons working for them that also have your skills.
These
are a few techniques that many persons never think of using. Add some of them to the job search
techniques you are relying on and see if they help you turn up job leads.
