THE ROADMAP TO EMPLOYMENT

There is a system to finding employment and job seekers must learn to use it.  Following are the techniques and skills I believe are needed to find a job.

JOB LEADS - The techniques you can use to find job leads are listed below:

Super network

Targeting a company

Job boards on company websites and career websites

Networking groups

Cold calling

Former co-workers

Friends

Relatives

Colorado Workforce Centers

Linkedin

Headhunters

Temp agencies

Career fairs

Classified ads

Visiting coffee shops

COVER LETTERS – Learn to write two column cover letters and attach a resume.

RESUME – Learn to write a resume that you can adjust/adapt to openings.

TELEPHONE INTERVIEWS and PERSONAL INTERVIEWS – Develop interview skills.  Learn to set them up so that you can ask follow up questions and find what your status is.

INVISIBLE RESUME – Develop one and use it at interviews.  We find it works.

NON–VERBAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS – The first 10-15 minutes of any interview are critical and you need to connect with the interviewer(s).

FOLLOW UP LETTERS – Consider using the two column letter that matches your skills to the employer’s needs.  There is a standard and a two column one.

FOLLOW UP PHONE CALLS AND E-MAILS – An opportunity to match your skills and abilities to employer needs.

RELATED SKILLS YOU NEED TO DEVLEOP INCLUDE: A 30 second elevator speech; ice breaker lines; maintaining a network; how to handle rejection; and a weekly employment plan.
