FOR
THE HOLIDAYS
As we enter the holiday season I believe there are a number of things that you can do that
will benefit your job search. This should not be a time that you absolutely do nothing.
You can: Update your resume
Redo or do your two-column cover letter as a template
Update your network and contact key persons who most likely can help you
Research companies that you want to target and gather info about them
Consider spin off or related careers that you might consider
Give thought to the places you are applying – consider other fields that could
use your skill set
Have you considered a total career change? Remember, the average person
will change jobs 8-12 times in their lifetime
Is this the time to take a Plan B job? Or a temp job for a few weeks?
The holidays are also a time you can volunteer and make more contacts
There are also many temp jobs out there that you
can take that will expand
your
network
Review the weaknesses in your job search skills
and work on improving them
LINKEDIN
If you have not joined
Linkedin you might consider doing so. I
joined last week and
already have about 1,000
plus persons I am linked to. Jon Hiles
has spent some time with
me on using Linkedin and has
offered to link you to his network. He
suggests that if you
do so you can access the
jobs icon and connect with many jobs as well as headhunters
that he has contact
with. He is offering to help members of
the group. Jon runs a
networking group at
Flatirons Community Church on a monthly basis, and has helped
me on occasion with our
group. You can contact Jon at j.hiles@aol.com
