AN EXAMPLE OF A JOB SEARCH PLAN
BOB RAIKES’ JOB SEARCH PLAN
CAREER. OBJECTIVE: To obtain
employment as a career counselor in the public or Private sector
TECHNIQUES TO BE USED
* Letters with resume sent to
firms needing my skills * Posting of resume on Collectivenet,
Monster.com etc.
* Development of a network of
people I contact frequently and to whom I send my resumes
* Telephone calls
to key persons in my network who willlrnow of job openings -- I
will stay in touch with these
people once a week or every other week. I will also set up an
e-mail network of these people
and let them know of my job search progress
* Contact two or three
headhunters and maintain contact with them weekly
* Check in once a week with the
Colorado Workforce Office and look for job openings
* Start the day in a coffee shop
and network with employed persons about any jobs
they know of that are open or may soon be open
* Meet at least twice a week
with other unemployed persons with my background for support
and tips regarding jobs that they may know of that might fit my
skills that they are not pursuing
(assuming their skills are close to mine)
* Attend at least two
networking-group meetings each week
* Find a volunteer job that will
permit me to use my counseling skills so that I can stay sharp
* Do some informational
interviewing with target companies where I would like to work
or that employ persons with my skills
* Register with one or more
temporary job agencies to seek temp employment
* Read all the newspapers in the
area for classified ads for jobs I can pursue
* Arrange for early morning
coffee or lunch with persons working in my field at least once a week
* Consider a part time Plan B
job so that I am in touch with and meet a lot of people or take a
volunteer job where I can use my counseling
* Try to meet as many new people
as possible that would be good additions to my network for
job opening tips
* SPEND TIME WITH UPBEAT PEOPLE
THAT I’M COMFORTABLE WITH AND MAKE ME FEEL GOOD
* Exercise frequently and do
things that bring me joy on a daily basis
* Dialogue weekly with other
unemployed persons as to how they are approaching their
job search
DEVELOP A PLAN FOR EACH DAY OF
THE WEEK. I WILL TRY TO DO THIS ON SUNDAY SO THAT I
HAVE SOMETHING OR SOMEWHERE TO
